History of Larinx

Larinx.com started out in July of 2011. It immediately grew to a blog that was getting around 50,000 hits a month, mostly by closet android users who were upset by the content of the blog. After reaching ridiculous success, I was forced to abandon the blog as my web hosting service informed me that I was bringing down their server with all the traffic I was receiving. As such, I decided to move over to blogger and continue blogging here. As you can see, I've taken a new approach, and will include these rage comics whenever I get a chance, but also go back to writing the posts that got me so many hits back in the day as well. Enjoy!

The Instagram Dilemma

Instagram is a popular app.  Obviously.  Millions upon millions use it on iOS and fandroids have been waiting for ages to get it on their devices.  Now, I'm not going to comment on whether or not the app itself is great, because I don't use it.  If you have a need for it, it probably does a job and does it well.  However, as we all know popularity doesn't necessary mean quality.  Anyway, Instagram was recently released for Android and lo and behold it's not as polished as the iOS version.  Not exactly a surprise, but there's been quite a turnaround among the fandroid bunch after this was revealed.

Suddenly, the same fandroids who were waiting for the app are decrying it as a stupid app for "hipsters" and iOS users who think they're "real photographers".  Huh?  Let's examine what's happening here.  We very clearly have a case of the jealous little brother who is pissed off because yet again, he got shafted.

Like I said, Instagram's popularity doesn't necessarily equate to its quality, but it doesn't work the other way around either.  It's quality doesn't equate to its popularity.  Meaning just because the Android version is a quick and lazy port, doesn't mean that the iOS version must be crappy too and is only used by Apple users who don't know any better.  Come on, fandroids...

I have no doubt that Instagram devs will update the Android app to have all the same features the iOS counterpart does, but fandroids really need to stop with the "we're cool because we don't try to be cool" crap.  It's sad.  Don't be upset because the devs don't want to spend as much time on the Android app as they do the iOS app.  It's just business, people.
